Shelly Pro EM-50 is a professional DIN-rail, single-phase energy meter built around two external 50 A current-transformer channels. It combines circuit and solar-flow monitoring with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, local storage, automation interfaces, and a dry-contact relay for external contactor control.
Core features
The meter reports voltage, current, active and apparent power, active and apparent energy, and power factor. Shelly specifies Class B active-energy accuracy and 1% measurement accuracy from 5-50 A, with 2% current accuracy below 5 A. It stores at least 60 days of one-minute data locally and supports CSV and JSON export.
Installation and sensors
The unit is one DIN module wide and is intended for indoor DIN-rail installation by a qualified electrician. It uses two external CT inputs, IA and IB; official packages include two 50 A CTs. The meter itself is supplied from 100-260 V AC and its built-in 2 A dry-contact relay controls an external contactor rather than switching a large monitored load directly.
Compatibility and local access
Shelly Pro EM-50 can work without Shelly Cloud. Its embedded web interface and Gen2 RPC platform support local monitoring and automation over Ethernet or Wi-Fi, with MQTT, HTTP, WebSocket, Modbus TCP, scripting, webhooks, JSON export, and TLS options. Home Assistant's official Shelly integration communicates directly with Gen2+ devices, so a cloud connection is not required.
Solar import and export
Four-quadrant measurement and Shelly's photovoltaic-ready guidance make the device useful for monitoring consumption and production. Two CTs can separate grid and PV paths, and Shelly describes redirecting surplus renewable energy through configurable load control. Accurate net-import/export interpretation depends on CT orientation and configuration; Shelly notes that additional configuration or scripting may be needed in some export scenarios.
Suitable uses
This model fits single-phase homes, small commercial sites, apartments, agricultural buildings, and other panels where two 50 A channels, wired Ethernet, local history, and automation are more important than whole-panel multi-phase coverage.
Advantages and limitations
Strong points include a published accuracy class, two included CTs, local data retention, wired and wireless networking, documented APIs, Home Assistant support, and contactor control. The 50 A channel ceiling and single-phase scope are important selection limits. It is not a direct-connected meter, and it is not the right choice for three-phase measurement or circuits above the supported CT range.
