Device overview

The HomeWizard Wi-Fi P1 Meter is a small gateway/data logger for homes with a compatible European smart meter. Instead of measuring current with its own CT clamps, it plugs into the smart meter's P1 port and reads the meter data that the utility meter already exposes.

This makes it useful when a home already has a compatible P1 smart meter and the goal is live visibility rather than installing a separate DIN-rail or clamp-based meter.

Core features

  • Reads electricity import/export data from the connected smart meter.
  • Can expose gas consumption when the gas meter is linked through the smart meter.
  • Supports both 1-phase and 3-phase smart-meter data, depending on the meter installation.
  • Uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the HomeWizard Energy app for setup and normal app viewing.
  • Provides a local JSON API when enabled in the HomeWizard Energy app.
  • Works with Home Assistant through the official HomeWizard integration.

Installation and compatibility

The P1 Meter plugs into the P1 port of a supported smart meter. HomeWizard states that modern SMR5 meters can power the P1 Meter directly from the P1 port, while older meters may require a USB-C power supply.

Compatibility depends on the smart meter model and local meter standard. HomeWizard positions the P1 Meter for most modern meters in Europe and provides a compatibility help page for checking the P1 port and power requirements.

Communication and data access

For everyday use, the HomeWizard Energy app shows live and historical consumption. For local integrations, HomeWizard documents a Local API that is available on the local network and can be used without an internet connection once enabled.

The device is also covered by Home Assistant's official HomeWizard integration, which lists the P1 Meter model HWE-P1 and exposes import/export, consumption, phase, smart-meter, and gas-related sensors where supported by the meter.

Best fit

This device is best for European homes with a compatible P1 smart meter that want a low-effort way to view electricity import/export, gas, and solar surplus. It is especially attractive for Home Assistant users who want official local integration without installing CT clamps.

It is not a direct metering device and should not be compared as if it had its own accuracy class, current rating, or CT setup. Those values are determined by the underlying smart meter and P1 data source.
