Acrel PZ72L-DE/C is a panel-mounted DC energy meter for sites that need DC-side visibility rather than AC branch-circuit metering. Acrel positions the PZ series for DC panels, solar power systems, telecommunications base stations, charging posts, and battery/DC distribution systems.
Core Features
The meter measures DC voltage, current and power, and separately accumulates forward and reverse active energy. It includes a local LCD display. The exact /C configuration provides RS485 Modbus RTU for connection to industrial control equipment, computers, gateways, or monitoring systems.
Installation and Sensor Setup
This is an embedded panel meter rather than a DIN-rail module. Acrel lists a 75 x 75 mm panel size, a 67 x 67 mm cut-out, and 98 mm depth. Voltage input is direct at an ordered 0-100 V, 0-500 V, or 0-1000 V range. Current is not measured through a direct 10 A power path: the V1.9 manual specifies an external 75 mV shunt or a Hall sensor with 0-20 mA or 0-5 V signal, with the primary-current range configurable up to 2500 A. Sensor choice, polarity, shielding, and range setup therefore matter to both installation and measurement accuracy.
Accuracy and Comparison Meaning
Acrel specifies Class 0.5 accuracy for the PZ series meter. This is an accuracy-class statement, not a generic 0.5% promise for every sensor and installation. The selected shunt or Hall sensor, wiring, programmed ratios, ordered voltage range, and commissioning quality remain part of the complete measurement chain. The 2500 A comparison value is the maximum configurable primary range through an external sensor, not a direct-current terminal rating.
Compatibility and Data Access
Core metering and the local display do not depend on a vendor cloud. The /C configuration exposes RS485 Modbus RTU, including documented measurement and configuration registers. Home Assistant can use this standards-based path through suitable RS485 hardware and manually configured Modbus entities; this is not a native Acrel integration.
Use Cases
PZ72L-DE/C fits DC metering points where a normal AC smart meter is the wrong tool: solar DC panels, DC charging equipment, telecom DC power systems, and battery/DC cabinets. Forward and reverse energy registers can show energy direction at the metering point, but they do not provide inverter export control.
Limits and Buying Notes
Confirm the exact voltage range, current sensor and signal type, auxiliary-power option, RS485 /C configuration, I/O options, regional certification, and commissioning design before ordering. Acrel provides official contact and quote routes, but no direct public checkout price was verified during this review.
