The Fronius Smart Meter TS 65A-3 is a direct-connected bidirectional energy meter for Fronius solar installations. It measures power and energy flowing to household loads or the public grid, then sends those readings to a compatible Fronius inverter or Datamanager over RS485 Modbus RTU. The data can support self-consumption analysis, load-curve recording, grid import/export monitoring, and dynamic feed-in control.

The 65 A direct-connected design is the key buying distinction. It does not require external current transformers for its normal measurement range, but the conductors must pass through the meter current path and must be sized and protected correctly.
Installation and phase support
Fronius documents the TS 65A-3 for single- and three-phase installation contexts and lists 2PN, 3P, and 3PN grid arrangements in its Smart Meter datasheet. Installation belongs inside a distribution board on a DIN rail. A qualified electrician should select the conductors, backup protection, disconnecting arrangements, and meter position for the local electrical code and Fronius system design.
The meter can be positioned at the grid feed-in point or in the consumption path. That decision changes how import, export, and load values are interpreted, so it should be agreed before commissioning.
Compatibility and data access
The meter communicates locally with a compatible Fronius inverter or Fronius Datamanager through Modbus RTU/RS485. Fronius Solar.web can provide cloud visualization and energy profiling, but cloud access is not required for the local meter-to-system communication path.
Home Assistant support is conditional rather than standalone. Home Assistant's official Fronius integration can expose a Fronius Smart Meter connected to a supported inverter or datalogger that provides the local Fronius Solar API. The TS 65A-3 is not a Wi-Fi meter with its own independent Home Assistant connection.
Solar and import/export use
The bidirectional measurement design is suitable for PV self-consumption and grid-flow monitoring. Fronius documents the meter as measuring energy flow to loads or the public grid and using the readings for load curves, Solar.web visibility, and dynamic feed-in management. It is a measurement and control-input component; export limits are applied by the compatible Fronius system, not by the meter acting alone.
Advantages and limitations
The main advantages are a clear 65 A per-phase ceiling, Class 1 accuracy, direct connection without external CT selection, and close integration with Fronius solar equipment. The main limitations are installer-led wiring, indoor-only placement, and dependence on a compatible Fronius inverter or Datamanager for the normal monitoring and integration workflow.

Fronius regional product pages and installer channels serve multiple markets. The Fronius Austria official shop displayed EUR 343.20 including VAT during the 2026-08-09 CST review and limits that store route to Austrian delivery. Stock was not represented by a stable explicit label, so buyers should confirm availability, compatibility, and installer requirements before ordering.
