Device Overview
Carlo Gavazzi EM540 is a compact direct-connected energy analyzer for two-phase and three-phase low-voltage switchboards. The EM540DINAV23XS1X variant is the RS485 Modbus RTU model with direct current inputs up to 65 A, so it is most useful where a DIN-rail meter can be installed directly in the panel without external CTs.
Core Field Fit
This record is scoped strictly as an energy meter. The most important buyer-facing fields are direct 65 A current handling, two/three-phase system support, Class 1 / Class B active-energy accuracy, local RS485 Modbus RTU access, and imported/exported active-energy measurement.
Installation And Measurement
EM540 mounts on a DIN rail in a low-voltage switchboard and uses direct current connection rather than split-core or external xxx:5 A CTs. Carlo Gavazzi documents two-phase 3-wire, three-phase with neutral, three-phase without neutral, and wild-leg three-phase delta contexts.
Connectivity And Integrations
The selected model communicates over RS485 Modbus RTU. That makes it a good fit for local gateways, building-management systems, inverter/gateway integrations, and Home Assistant setups that can poll Modbus registers through suitable RS485 hardware. There is no vendor cloud requirement for the core metering function.
Solar And Load-Control Relevance
Carlo Gavazzi documents consumption and generation energy metering, imported/exported active-energy registers, and Modbus data use for control actions such as avoiding feed-in to the grid in photovoltaic installations with storage.
Strengths And Limits
Strengths include a compact 3-DIN form factor, direct 65 A wiring, MID active-energy context, local Modbus RTU, and official Carlo Gavazzi global product support. Limits: it is not an app-first home monitor, it does not include Wi-Fi or cloud dashboards by itself, and installations above 65 A should use a CT-based meter such as EM530 or another appropriately rated model.
