Device Overview
Carlo Gavazzi EM112 is a compact single-phase DIN-rail energy analyzer for installations that need direct-connected metering up to 100 A and a wired local data path. The selected EM112DINAV01XS1PFB variant is a 230 V L-N, 5(100) A MID energy analyzer with RS485 Modbus RTU.
Core Characteristics
The official product page identifies the device as a single-phase MID energy analyzer for 1-phase 2-wire systems, with direct connection up to 100 A, self power supply, RS485 Modbus RTU communication, and consumption/generation energy metering. The 2025 EM112 datasheet adds Class 1 / Class B active-energy accuracy, Class 2 reactive-energy accuracy, imported/exported kWh and kvarh measurement, DIN-rail mounting, IP51 front protection, pulse output option, and tariff input support.
Installation And Measurement Fit
EM112 is best suited to installer-led single-phase panels, sub-metering, tenant/cost-allocation jobs, EV or solar-adjacent metering points, and Modbus-based monitoring systems where a direct 100 A meter is more appropriate than CT clamps. It should not be treated as a multi-phase meter, an inverter, a battery, an EV charger, or a cloud-first home monitor.
Connectivity And Integration
For the RS485 variant, data access is local through Modbus RTU. Home Assistant support should be read as a standards-based Modbus route through suitable RS485 hardware and user configuration, not as a Carlo Gavazzi-native integration. The official Modbus protocol documentation and Home Assistant Modbus integration documentation support that generic local integration path.
Selection Notes
Choose EM112 when the installation is single-phase and direct connection up to 100 A is acceptable. For three-phase services, CT-operated services, or higher-current switchboards, compare against Carlo Gavazzi EM340, EM530, EM540/EM580, Eastron SDM630/SDM630MCT, and other type-appropriate meters instead.
