Device Overview
Tesla Universal Wall Connector is a hardwired Level 2 EV charger for North American homes that need one installed charger for both NACS and J1772 vehicles. Its most practical distinction is the integrated adapter design: it charges NACS vehicles directly and includes an integrated J1772 adapter for compatible non-Tesla EVs.
Core Charging Specs
Tesla's official product and installation sources list up to 48 A / 11.5 kW output when installed on a suitable 60 A circuit. The installer can also commission lower output levels from 12 A to 48 A, which is useful when the home's available electrical capacity is limited.
Installation And Power Management
The charger is hardwired and should be installed by a qualified electrician. Tesla's installation manual lists 200-240 V AC single-phase supply, a 24 ft cable, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and Type 3R / IP54 indoor-outdoor enclosure protection. Tesla's power-management documentation supports static power management, dynamic power management using a Tesla-approved power meter, and group power management for up to six Gen 3 Wall Connectors.
Connectivity And Integration Notes
Wi-Fi and the Tesla app support usage tracking, access controls, firmware updates, remote diagnostics, and monitoring. Tesla states that Power Management does not require internet to enable or use, although Wi-Fi remains recommended for firmware updates and remote troubleshooting. No official residential Universal Wall Connector OCPP support, Home Assistant support, or general local API was verified in the reviewed Tesla sources.
Buying Notes
During the 2026-06-11 review, Tesla Shop listed Universal Wall Connector at $550 but showed it as out of stock with email restock notification and Tesla-owner sign-in eligibility messaging. Regional stock and installer availability should be checked before treating it as immediately purchasable.
