Device Overview

KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter G2 is a three-phase energy meter and energy-management accessory for KOSTAL solar inverter systems. It is mainly useful when a home or small commercial PV installation already uses, or plans to use, compatible KOSTAL inverters such as PLENTICORE-family systems.

The meter measures energy in real time and passes that information to KOSTAL inverters and energy-management workflows. That makes it relevant for self-consumption optimisation, dynamic active-power control, home-consumption display, battery-related KOSTAL workflows, and ENECTOR wallbox comfort functions when the broader KOSTAL ecosystem is installed.

Core Characteristics

  • Device type: energy meter / energy manager
  • Electrical context: 3-phase 230/400 V AC systems
  • Current range: 5 A rated current and 63 A limiting current per phase when directly connected
  • Higher-current use: possible with external converters, subject to converter accuracy
  • Interfaces: 2 LAN interfaces for Modbus TCP and 2 RS485 interfaces for Modbus RTU
  • Installation: control cabinet / distribution board on a top-hat rail
  • Accuracy: Class 1 typical active/reactive energy accuracy according to the reviewed KOSTAL G2 datasheet

Installation and Integration

This is an installer-oriented cabinet device rather than a plug-in consumer monitor. The product fits best where a qualified installer is already designing a KOSTAL PV, storage, or wallbox setup and needs a compatible meter for power-flow visibility and inverter control.

KOSTAL documents both Modbus TCP over LAN and Modbus RTU over RS485. The online/manual material also describes Modbus slave behavior for reading measurement data from the device, which is why EnergyMeterHub records local API support as true under the site's standards-based local-integration convention.

Home Assistant and Local Data

No native KOSTAL Home Assistant integration was verified for this exact device. However, Home Assistant's official Modbus integration can read compatible Modbus devices when the register mapping and network/serial setup are configured correctly. For EnergyMeterHub comparison purposes, this is recorded as Home Assistant support through a generic Modbus route, not as a one-click vendor integration.

KOSTAL Solar Portal and the KOSTAL Solar App remain important for KOSTAL ecosystem display and remote workflows. Local metering and Modbus integration can exist, but app/portal features and some comfort functions depend on KOSTAL ecosystem configuration.

Best Fit

KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter G2 is strongest for:

  • KOSTAL PLENTICORE-led PV systems
  • three-phase installations needing real-time consumption and generation measurement
  • self-consumption optimisation inside the KOSTAL ecosystem
  • installer-led systems where Modbus TCP/RTU access is useful
  • setups that may combine PV, battery functions, and ENECTOR wallbox workflows

It is less suitable as a generic DIY home energy monitor if the buyer does not use KOSTAL inverter hardware or does not want installer-led cabinet work.
