Rainforest EAGLE 3 is a utility smart-meter gateway for homes or buildings where the utility meter exposes a supported Zigbee Smart Energy Home Area Network. Instead of adding clamp sensors or a DIN-rail meter, it reads data from the utility meter and brings that data onto the home network for app, cloud, and local API workflows.

Installation And Compatibility

EAGLE 3 is best suited to regions and utilities that allow customer HAN devices to be provisioned to the meter. Local Data And Home Assistant

The official datasheet documents HTTP REST API access on the local network or through Rainforest Cloud. Home Assistant's Rainforest Eagle integration specifically lists Eagle 3 and describes pulling usage through the device's local API, so this record is marked as local-API and Home Assistant friendly. Standard setup still uses Rainforest app/cloud account flows, so it should not be described as fully cloud-free.

What It Measures

EAGLE 3 does not measure current with CTs and does not sit in the electrical panel like an energy meter. It is a gateway/data logger that relays smart-meter data from the utility meter. That distinction matters for comparisons: it can be simpler than installing a panel meter, but it depends heavily on utility HAN support and the data the meter exposes.
